Suisserugby Suspends all Competitions

Zurich, 13.03.2020 - In light of the current developments surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and the “Coronavirus”, the central committee of the Swiss Rugby Union has just confirmed the postponement of the start of the spring season for all Swiss Rugby Competitions in all categories. All matches and tournaments in all categories will be postponed for at least 1 month, after the Easter Holidays, until April 18th.
Before that point, we will re-consider if the season can start or if we must continue the postponement. Regarding the missed matches, we are preparing different formulas for the rest of the season, depending on when it will be safe to resume playing.
It is our responsibility, of all of us, to help keep our members safe, and all medical experts agree that avoiding social and physical contact will help slow the spread of the Virus. The decision regarding each club’s own activities (training sessions etc) is up to each club but should be taken with the above facts in mind.
The Swiss Rugby Family proudly stands together, in solidarity, with those who are weaker, older, or otherwise at higher risk of serious illness from the Coronavirus. It is our tradition, and part of our responsibility as Rugby- Women and Men, to support each other and our communities. By suspending all rugby competitions and avoiding gatherings of large numbers of people in one place, we aim to do our part in helping to reduce the risk of infection and the spread of the virus.
