New Women's National Development League for the season 2016-17
The Swiss Rugby Federation is proud to announce the introduction of a new women's national development league in Switzerland, which is kicking off with a first tournament next Saturday 17.09.2016 in Luzern. This league consists of 6 tournaments, 4 in the fall and 2 in the spring. We are proud to announce that we have 9 teams signed up for this new league. This is an increase of 80% (!!) in numbers of teams to the traditional Women's league, which will continue to run as usual.
The dates have been chosen on the same dates as our Swiss Women's National Team's training & game dates, which ensures that the traditional women's teams can give a lot of game time to their less experienced players with the national players being absent, and the newer teams will face an opposition on a similar level. The rules for these tournaments have been slightly adapted, with a safe introduction to rugby for our many completely new players being the main focus. Additionally, each team will be supporting the referees in a double-refereeing system throughout the day by supplying one volunteer (player, coach, or other female club member) for the matches their own team will not be playing in. There will be no ranking for this league, the aim is purely the development of women's rugby in Switzerland.
We are looking forward to seeing many new faces on the pitch, and wish all the best to the teams participating in this new adventure.
