Switzerland Beats Hungary in Opening Match of U20 European Championship
U20 European Championship, Brno (CZ)
Sunday, 2014-08-24, Switzerland - Hungary 43 – 7 ( 17 – 7)
The U20 Swiss team had a good start at the European Championship, with a convincing win over Hungary. But it was not that easy. The beginning of the game was balanced, with the Magyars not taking advantage of a 1st penalty, after a swiss guilty ruck. The Swiss players then took hold of the game, with 2 big opportunities, the second ending with a converted try (7-0). Too much enthusiasm and a few small mistakes , only a penalty and another converted try were scored before Hungary managed to score on an only occasion, just before half-time.
After the pause, the opposition saw red after a dangerous high tackle on Roméo Vuadens. Switzerland then found back its efficiency and pragmatism, scoring 4 more tries despite Hungary's will never to close the game.
Switzerland will now go on to face the Ukraine in the Semi-Finals on Wednesday, August 27th.
Scorers for Switzerland:
Tries : Vuadens (2), Schenker, Greenhalgh, Lukusa et Venturelli
Conversions : Venturelli (4) et Scalet (1)
Penalty kicks : Venturelli (1)
