Switzerland will face Netherlands to begin the Rugby Europe Trophy, on November 18th in Yverdon-les-bains
The Swiss National Rugby Team begins a new European campaign in Rugby Europe Trophy: for its first match of the season 2017-2018, Switzerland will face Netherlands on the occasion of the SUISSE RUGBY DAY, which will take place on Saturday, November 18th, 2017 in Yverdon-les-Bains.
Unlike the past season, the Men of the Eldelweiss will play only 2 matches in Switzerland and 3 away matches during this new season: so it will be essential to gain a maximum of points « at home ». The startle effect of the last season having passed, the Swiss will be now expected by all their opponents: for the 1st match, they will compete against the Dutch, for a probably very tight game!
After a success experiment in November 2016 (matches against Portugal and Moldavia) the Swiss Rugby Union (FSR), in partnership with the Rugby Club Yverdon and the city of Yverdon-les-Bains, will organize this mach at the Municipal stadium of Yverdon-les-Bains again.
This match will also be an opportunity to pay a last tribute to Eric Melville, the Swiss team’s coach who passed away on last June. In only one season, Eric Melville had forged strong ties with the Swiss Rugby Family: no doubt emotion will be very strong even as the players will come on the pitch and as the Swiss National Anthem will start.
In Yverdon-les-Bains, a curtain-raiser match between the Swiss U17 National Team and the Swiss U18 National Team will open the rugby day at 13:00. The match of the Rugby Europe Trophy « Switzerland-Nertherlands » will follow at 15:00.
Tickets are available for purchase through the Suisserugby online shop at shop.suisserugby.com as well as on-site at the stadium on match-day.
