The Captain's Words
One week ahead of their first match in the new Rugby Europe Trophy, National Team Captain Cyril Lin shares his thoughts:
A new adventure begins in a week’s time with the match against Portugal. We are eager to see what this higher division holds for us. The players are excited to be back at it. There are also a few disappointed ones, who have not been selected, but they know the door stays open and they will work hard to improve their game for a future selection.
We were able to play one preparation match, on November 2nd in Annecy. Even though we had a mediocre performance, I am very happy with the willpower and dedication the team showed at that match. We could see there is great potential, as a number of players had their first selections. We also got to know the new coaches for the first time, and I wish to welcome them warmly. I am very happy with the discussions I was able to have with Eric and Olivier, and also about the confidence which they’ve shown me. I in turn have great confidence in the DTN Sebastien Dupoux and in his choice of new coaches!
The arrival of Mathieu Guyou as manager has also been excellent news, as he is a personality of central importance to the group of players. Thanks to him there will be an even stronger connection between the players and the staff. I would also like to thank Gil Coquard and Jérôme Mallinjoud, as well as the entire outgoing staff, for their trust, their work, and most importantly their passion.
It will be strange next Thursday when we all meet to prepare for the next match, but pages are made to be turned, and stories beg to be written. We continue to write not only our story, but also that of a little rugby nation that wants nothing more than to grow!
With sincere friendship,
Captain, Swiss National Team
