The U18 remain in the European Trophy after their strong win 32-3 against Latvia
The U18 did show up for their third and last match against Latvia Saturday march 26th in Lisbon. After an infuriating defeat in the first game against Ukraine (15-11) and being dominated by Luxembourg (19-0), the 1998 generation came on top of Latvia for their last game, which means that Switzerland will remain in the Trophy for next year. A slow start allowed Latvia to score a first penalty. But soon after, Valentin Hauser for the backs (11th minute), and Victor Charpentier for the forwards (34th) each scored a try, both converted by George Monk for a half time score of 14-3.
The young Swiss started the second half keeping the same pace, and a penalty at the 50th (George Monk), followed by three unconverted tries by Charles Willems, Max Gurney and Arthur Donze at the 61st, 64th and 70th respectively sealed the score at 32-3 and allowed to finish the 2016 edition of the European Trophy on a very positive note. With this victory, Switzerland will remain in the same group and should meet Netherland in the first game of the 2017 edition of the competition.
