U18 National Team wins opening match of European Championship against Croatia
Pamiers, FRA, 28.04.2015 - The Swiss U18 National Team won its opening match of the 2015 Rugby Europe U18 European Championship, Division B, by beating Croatia 8 - 5.
In a tightly contested match in which neither team yielded anything to the opponent, the Swiss team could not benefit from its strengths in the first half, and was lucky to end the first 40 minutes on a 0-0 score, after Croatia knocked on two balls in the tryzone, missing out on opportunities to score.
In the second half, Croatia took advantage of a Swiss defensive error to score their first try. It was not until the last 10 minutes of the game that the young Swiss found their stride, by leaning on their strength in the forwards and in ball-carrying. This finally led to a try, followed up by a penalty granted by the referee on another strong ball-carry by the Swiss team. The kicker struck gold, making the final score 8 - 5.
