Medical Incident in Swiss Rugby Match
Rugby Player deceased following a medical incident in a Swiss Rugby 2nd league Match.
Yverdon, 18.05.2019 - Following a medical incident in an Excellence A (Swiss Second League) Match in Yverdon, a player from RC Neuchatel was in critical condition and was airlifted to the hospital, where he later passed away. The incident happened in regular play, where the player remained on the ground following a phase of play. Medically trained personnel on site reacted immediately and correctly, and emergency services were called and arrived quickly. The match was suspended and the following LNA match was cancelled.
For the moment, the exact cause of the incident and the death are not yet known to the doctors, nor to the Swiss Rugby Union, and any speculation on the cause of the accident or the death is entirely inappropriate.
An autopsy by the medical examiner is currently ongoing.
As soon as more information is known it will be shared by the Swiss Rugby Union.
