Changes in Men’s XV's National Team Staff at the Swiss Rugby Union
Lausanne, 03/10/2016 - Coaches Gil Coquard and Jerome Mallinjoud, as well as Team Manager Jean-Marc Pythoud and Staff member Marcel Vernes, have announced last week that they are leaving the FSR’s National Team staff.
Following the successful completion of the last European Nations Cup campaign, in which Switzerland won promotion from group 2A to 1B, into the newly named and restructured competition format of the “Rugby Europe Trophy”, the Swiss National Team staff and coaches have re-evaluated their commitment and their positions on the Swiss National Team and have decided to end their involvement.
Their departure is motivated mainly by the gap between their plans or ambitions in their role as national team coaches, and the limited means the FSR is able to put at their disposal or to invest in the national team. Following the clear directives of the FSR’s Delegates’ Assembly to keep the expenses associated with the men’s national team from overreaching certain limits, and to focus greater investment and resources on the development of rugby within the Swiss national territory, the FSR’s leadership was not able to satisfy the full ambitions of the national team’s coaches. They therefore preferred to step down rather than to continue in a project which does not correspond to their vision.
They leave the FSR on excellent terms with the Board of Directors as well as with the DTN. The Swiss Rugby Union would like to thank each member of the staff for their commitment, their hard work, and the great quality of the results which they helped deliver, and wishes them the best of success in their future endeavours, in which they will always be welcome back at the FSR.
The Swiss Rugby Union is currently in the process of assembling a new national team staff and coaching team, under the guidance of Technical Director Sebastien Dupoux. For any questions or inquiries, he can be reached by e-mail at dtn(AT)suisserugby.com.
The Swiss National Team’s next matches in the Rugby Europe Trophy will be:
November 19th, 2016: Switzerland – Portugal
November 26th, 2016: Switzerland – Moldova
March 11, 2017: Switzerland – Ukraine
March 18, 2017: Netherlands – Switzerland
April 22, 2017: Poland – Switzerland
