Suisserugby Cancels Official Competitions for Spring 2020

Official competitions are now cancelled for the rest of the spring/summer season of 2020. This applies to all official competitions in all age categories in Swiss Rugby. There will be no Swiss Champions or Cup winners this season and no promotion or relegation at the end of the season.
Zurich, 27.03.2020 - Suisserugby had previously suspended all competitions until April 18th, with a promise to give further information before the End of March. The Swiss Rugby Union, in consultation with its Competition Commission, has taken the following points into consideration: while nobody knows for sure how long this “lock-down” situation will last and when it will be possible and safe to resume rugby activities, we can only assume that this will not happen in time to allow a proper preparation and playing of the formal competitions planned for the spring season of 2020.To allow the clubs and their players and staff to focus on more important priorities, such as keeping themselves and their families safe and healthy, and surmounting the big challenges the current situation poses to our personal and national economy, the FSR has asked its club presidents to vote on the cancellation of the rest of the season, as recommended by the Competition Commission.
As decided by electronic vote by the presidents of its member clubs:
All official competitions are now cancelled for the rest of the spring/summer season of 2020.
This applies to all official competitions in all age categories in Swiss Rugby. There will be no Swiss Champions or Cup winners this season and no promotion or relegation at the end of the season.
All official Swiss Rugby Competitions will restart in the new season in September 2020, hoping the situation will allow this to happen.
NEW Rugby Activities Spring / Summer 2020:
When the “lock-down” is lifted and when rugby pitches become available again to be used, we want to organize some matches, tournaments, and other rugby activities before the summer break. These will be open to all our member Clubs and “Ecoles de Rugby” (Academies) and will be on a voluntary basis (no obligation). Starting in early April, we will ask all our clubs to let us know if they are interested in participating with any or all of their teams and age categories.
The Swiss Rugby Family proudly stands together, in solidarity, with those who are weaker, older, or otherwise at higher risk of serious illness from the Coronavirus. It is our tradition, and part of our responsibility as Rugby- Women and Men, to support each other and our communities.
It will be a long and challenging period, but when this crisis ends, sports in general and rugby in particular will have an important role to play in supporting our members and in rebuilding our communities, and our social life. We know the Suisserugby Family can count on each other for support in this time.
