Switzerland beats Israel at home to confirm 1st place in ENC Group 2A
Avusy, 14.11.2015 - On a beautiful autumn day in Avusy, Switzerland faced Israel in the last European Nations Cup (ENC) Group 2A Match of 2015. AFter its victory in the Czech Republic. the Swiss team was looking for a win with bonus point to cement its first place in Group 2A.
The Edelweiss came out strong, and in the 6th minute Benjamin Doy kicked off the scoring with a try converted by Gaetan Hirsch. After being surprised by the first Swiss surge, the visitors found their way into the game and defended strongly until Switzerland breached their walls again with another try in the 27th minutes, scored by Cyril Lin. Just before the end of the half, Israel got themselves on the board with a Penalty kick, making the halftime score 14-3.
After the break, the hosts pciked up right where they had left off, with winger Sylvain Hirsch scoring a try in the 41st minute, which his borther Gaetan converted.
The rest of the half was a fairly balanced affair, with both teams exchanging attacks until Israel received a yellow card in the 63rd minute. After defending valiantly with 14 men for 9 minutes, the yellow card finally cost the visitors dearly when Switzerland scored one last try in the 73rd minute, touched down by Francis Gangath-Samba, and converted by the impeccable Gaetan Hirsch.
With this 28-3 win, including the bonus point, Switzerland puts itself in a strong position to defend its first place in the group going into the last 2 matches of the series in April 2016.
