Swiss Rugby Cup Finals 2025 – A Thrilling Season Finale in Avusy
Just three weeks after Swiss Rugby crowned eight champions on Finals Day, another highlight of the season brought players, fans, and the rugby community together once again: the Swiss Cup Finals 2025, hosted in grand style by RC Avusy at Stade Athenaz on Saturday, June 14. With the sun blazing and temperatures hitting 33°C, the stage was set for a day of intense rugby and emotional moments.
The day opened with the FSR Cup Final between GEPLO 2 and Stade Lausanne 2. A tightly contested match from start to finish saw GEPLO edge ahead with a 21:17 victory – a strong finish to a determined campaign.
At 17:00, hosts Avusy RC faced off against RC Nyon in what turned into an unforgettable showdown for the Swiss Cup 2025. Avusy led for most of the match and looked set to claim the title, but Nyon pushed relentlessly until the very last minute. A dramatic try and a high-pressure conversion sealed it – RC Nyon triumphed 33:31 in a true test of grit and resilience. The energy in the stadium was electric, with a passionate home crowd, a lively band, and a referee trio that ensured the contest was played in great spirit.
Beyond the on-field drama, the day also marked the end of an era for three significant figures in Swiss Rugby:
- André Pharaony, known for his longterm commitment on the pitch and his impact on local rugby development, played his final game as an active player. His longevity, drive, and love for the game have made him a familiar face across Swiss rugby – both respected and admired by teammates and opponents alike.
- Andrew Cummins, President of Stade Lausanne for an incredible 26 years, also stepped down – and did so after coaching his last match that very same day. His dedication to club rugby in Switzerland has left a lasting legacy.
- Cyril Lin, long-time national team captain and key leader at RC Nyon, laced up his boots one final time. Renowned for his leadership and fierce competitive spirit, Cyril closed his remarkable playing career in the best possible way – lifting the Swiss Cup with his team.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to these three individuals for their unwavering commitment, passion, and contributions to Swiss Rugby – on and off the field.
