The Swiss Women's National 7's team was relaunched and competed in its rejuvenated set-up for the first time in an international tournament in Montpellier (France).

Winter Sevens in Montpellier

A year ago, the women's 7s national team was rejuvenated and relaunched. The newly formed team and its' young players participated last week in an international tournament for the first time. The Winter Sevens, being part of the Sevens European Rugby Series, took place in Montpellier the weekend of February 5-6, 2022. It was a perfect setting for the young girls - more than 5 players are under 20 - to proof themselves. The  team demonstrated pace and aggression, adapted quickly to the gameplan and showed an increase of skillsets in their duels from game to game. A narrow victory in the last contest reflected the progress the young 7's team has made during the tournament.

Congrats to following national team players for their 1st cap:

  • Anne-Kathrin Zenker
  • Léa Badel
  • Kim Geissenbühler
  • Rebekka Hosch
  • Elyse Albertoni
  • Ines Herger
  • Claire Österreicher.

The team returned safely back to Switzerland with a backpack full of new experiences , impressions and a better understanding on how it is to compete internationally.
