International Rugby returns to Switzerland with 2 Rugby Europe Trophy Matches

Nyon, 19/10/2021 - The Swiss Men's National Team starts its 6th European campaign in the Rugby Europe Men's Trophy (2nd division = European TOP 18). In 2019, the team finished 2nd in the European Championships, this year they will face Germany, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine. Ranked 29th on World Rugby's ranking, just behind Belgium and just ahead of Germany, the objective for the 2021/2022 season will be to confirm its position in the European TOP 15 and thus to finish in the top 2 of the 2021-2022 Rugby Europe Trophy.  On November 13th, after two seasons disrupted by the pandemic, Olivier Nier and Mathieu Guyou's men will face Lithuania in Nyon.  Winners of Lithuania by 9-40 during their last away game in November 2019, Switzerland approaches this match with confidence.  A real opposition of style, this match will be the opportunity for the Swiss Team to confirm their ambitions and to offer their supporters a 1st victory at home, in order to start their European campaign 2021/2022.

The Swiss Women's Team is participating in its 3rd season of the Rugby Europe Women's Trophy (2nd European division), with the Czech Republic, Finland and Sweden. For the women team, it will also be the beginning of their 2021-2022 campaign.  On November 13th, they will host Czech Republic, just before the men's match. In 2019, after a convincing victory against Finland (32-00), Switzerland lost with a narrow margin (5-15), in Czech Republic, after a very close match played in difficult conditions.  This year, the Swiss players are eager to beat their Czech counterparts to launch this new adventure in the Rugby Europe Women's Trophy 2021-2022.

The Swiss Rugby Federation will organize these 2 matches, in partnership with the Nyon Rugby Club, within a SUISSE RUGBY DAY on Saturday, November 13th, 2021 at the Colovray Sports Center.  In addition, in the morning, the Nyon RC will hold a large Tournament for the Rugby Schools of the region, whose participants will, of course, be invited to the matches.  We expect a large audience at the Stadium.
